Veterinary Care for Dogs and Cats

Annual Exams, Checkups, Vaccines, and Preventive Wellness Care

Preventive Wellness Care

Regular checkups mean more wagging, and fewer unwelcome surprises! Each animal is different, so we tailor your pet’s care plan to suit its lifestyle, health history, and any special needs.

If your pet gets anxious about vet visits, ask about our No Poke Appointments. Our team is trained in special bonding techniques, plus aromatherapy, to help your pet build confidence through wellness care. All without poking or prodding!

If your pet needs a vaccine and is current on their annual exam with us, call to schedule a technician appointment to get your vaccine with no exam fee and a faster visit.

We also can usually accommodate same-day, technician appointments for nail-trims and gland expressions between 9am-3pm.

For Canines, or Dogs

Puppy Wellness

Your puppy will receive a series of vaccinations every 3 – 4 weeks until after 16 weeks of age. At each visit a physical examination, fecal examination, and vaccines specific to your puppy/kitten’s lifestyle will be given. Heartworm, flea, and tick prevention will started on your first visit. Deworming may be recommended. Please remember to bring a fresh stool sample and any medical history/previous vaccinations to your visit.

As a welcome gift, new puppy owners receive a gift bag that includes a health journal, flea comb, tips on training, care, behavior, nutrition, and more!

Adult Dogs

Adult dogs need annual wellness exams in order to stay healthy. During each checkup, our veterinarians will determine your dog’s health status by talking to you about its nutrition and lifestyle, as well as through physical and dental examinations. Based on what our vets find, they will update your pet’s vaccines, recommend any relevant treatments, and provide you with all the care and nutrition you need to keep your best friend healthy for another year.

Senior Dogs

Dogs age much faster than humans, and as they become senior citizens they need special care. We recommend you bring dogs older than 7 years in for semi-annual checkups. In addition to the regular tests, vaccines, and caregiving, our veterinarians will evaluate your dog’s organ functions to identify all age-related changes going on internally.

For Felines, or Cats

Veterinary Care for Exotics

Our veterinarians provide specialized care for small mammals, including: ferrets, gerbils, guinea pigs, hamsters, and rabbits. We understand their unique health needs and can provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and surgical services with some exceptions that may require a specialist. Contact us to make an appointment!

Gerbils, Guinea Pigs, and Hamsters

Companion Animal Clinic cares for pocket pets, too! We recommend annual wellness visits just to make sure your pet isn’t hiding any serious symptoms. A typical visit may include:

  • A physical examination for abnormal biological functions
  • Dental check to make sure teeth aren’t overgrown
  • Screening for parasites such as lice, mites, or fleas

To ensure your pocket pet is living its best life, contact us to schedule an appointment.

Ferrets

Ferrets are a special category of exotic pet because they so intelligent, energetic, and have special dietary needs. Our annual ferret wellness exams typically include:

  • Physical exam
  • Rabies vaccine
  • Canine distemper vaccine
  • Examination for adrenal disease – A common, but very dangerous condition for ferrets!
  • Nutritional consultation

We also encourage ferret owners to spay or neuter their pets—not only will it prevent unplanned reproduction, but helps reduce pet odor, control temperament, and protect it from deadly adrenal disease. Contact us here to schedule an appointment for your ferret.

Rabbits

Companion Animal Clinic provides wellness care, medical screenings, dental care, and surgeries for rabbits and bunnies. Even healthy-looking hoppers can hide signs of illness, so we recommend rabbit owners schedule regular visits. A typical checkup may include:

  • Physical examination
  • Fluid screening for parasites or other diseases
  • Dental exam for overgrown teeth

We also provide spaying and neutering. Contact us if you have any questions, or would like to schedule an appointment.

Pet Surgery including Spay/Neuter Procedures

Our modern surgical suite is available to meet most of our patients’ surgical needs. We routinely perform spay and neuter procedures on cats, dogs, and several exotic companion animal species. Our surgical services include but are not limited to growth/mass removals, ocular (eye) surgeries, foreign body removal, wound repair, ear infection treatments and hematoma surgeries.  We also perform orthopedic (bone) surgeries to stabilize fractures and treat hip dysplasia and other diseases. We also provide free post-surgical incision checks for all surgeries.

We do also perform feline declawing, but only advise it in extreme circumstances. As an alternative, we can cap your cat’s claws with Soft Paws, which are rubber tips that prevent your cat from messing up furniture or hurting children and other animals.

Oncology, Cancer Treatment

Companion Animal Clinic uses the latest veterinary cancer treatments that help to extend the lives of many companion animals. We understand the emotional, medical limitations, and financial challenges of treating cancer, so our care team of experts will help guide you through the available options. Contact us and we can help you make the decision that’s right for you and your pet.

Cardiac Diagnostics

Heart disease can be life-threatening to your pet; therefore, accurately diagnosing the severity of heart disease is critical to treating and maintaining your pet’s quality of life. Diagnosing cardiac disease properly requires an electrocardiogram, chest radiographs (X-rays) and ultrasound to determine the full extent of cardiac disease.

Thoracic Radiography

Chest X-Rays (Radiography) are essential to helping our veterinarians evaluate the size of the heart and major vessels along with any lung or airway abnormalities that may be present concurrently.

Microchipping

Microchipping your pet is the best way to help reunite lost pets with their owners.  We are so passionate about microchipping, Companion Animal Clinic will pay the registration fee for the first year when you have your pet microchipped with us. Contact Us for more information about microchipping your pet. Check out our blog post to learn more!

Pet Dentistry

Pet Dentistry
The American Veterinary Medical Association estimates roughly 80% of dogs and 70% of cats have some form of dental disease by 3 years of age. This is more than just bad breath. Dental diseases can lead to infections of the heart valves, kidneys, and liver! These problems can be prevented with regular dental check-ups and dental cleanings. Contact us to schedule a dental cleaning.

Digital Radiology (X-Ray)

Radiography is the use of X-rays to view internal structures in the body. When paired with special procedures, such as contrast studies, we are able to enhance the diagnostic ability of our digital radiography. OFA radiographs can also be used to evaluate both hips and elbows of your dog. These technologies allow bones and internal organs to be visualized and aid in the diagnoses of many diseases and conditions. We are also PennHip Certified to help in the evaluation of your pet’s hips (for Hip Dysplasia).

Ultrasound Imaging

Our in-house specialties include ultrasound imaging, a non-invasive, pain-free procedure uses sound waves to examine a pet’s internal organs and structures. This helps us discover, diagnose, and treat complex conditions without radiation or side-effects to ensure maximum comfort for your pet.
